The 1979 State Championship Wrestling Team seemed to pick up right where their predecessors left off. Lead by Head Coach Dick Miller and Assistant Coach Brian Martin, the ’79 team boasted another perfect season. They remained undefeated in dual meets, stretching the program’s winning streak to forty-four and wining their fifth consecutive Suburban League title. They also won their fourth consecutive sectional and district titles. Qualifying the eight wrestlers for the state tournament, they placed seven of them. Lead by four individual State Champions, the Comets brought home Coventry’s second consecutive State Wrestling Title. Members of the team included: Brett Bennett, Marc Wyatt, Ray Hughes, Keith Harpster, John Potts, Mike Potts, Al Hutnick, Mark Harpster, Ted Roth, Chris Kallai, Gus Kallai, Mike Scott, and Ralph Glover.
