Welcome to Erwine Media Center, always a hub of activity! Hi, I am Gwen Jackson the Information Tech Specialist in charge of the Media Center. I have worked in the Media Center for 14 years and worked in the District for 24 years. I have been married to my husband, Bob for over 33 years. We have 2 adult children, 5 grandchildren, 2 dogs and 1 cat. I live in Coventry School District so my school is very important to me. Thanks to a $5,000 Dollar General Store grant, and a $500 Erwine PTA grant, Erwine has received 104 Playaways! So what is a Playaway? Acording to the Playaway web site "Playaway is the simplest way to listen to audio on the go. Each Playaway comes with the digital content already pre-loaded on it and a battery to make it play. Simply plug in earbuds and enjoy." -www.playaway.com Our students think they resemble an iPod and are thrilled to get to check one out! We can't keep them on the shelves! Students are encouraged to check out the matching hardback or paperback book to read along if one is available. Students may use the headphones that come with the Playway or use their own. (They are cleaned in between uses!)

Accelerated Reader

Here at Erwine, we encourage our students to read for enjoyment. To help promote the love of reading, and to assess student participation and progress we participate in the Accelerated Reader Program. With this program, students choose books of their choice, read them and then take an online quiz. We have over 113,000 quizzes available to our students. Something for everyone! To check to see if a title is AR, click on the icon below to go to the AR BookFinder.

Goals:

5th grade - 5 points per month

6th grade - 10 points per month

7th grade - 15 points per month
