The Coventry High School AP Government class attended Vanderbilt’s virtual classroom on March 1, 2012. The topic was “Parties and Platforms of Democrats and Republicans.” The class was fortunate to be the only class to participate in this live broadcast from Vanderbilt University. Typically, the virtual classroom is full comprising of classes throughout the United States. Coventry’s AP Government class had the full attention of the two guest speakers and was able to ask several questions throughout the presentation. Larry Woods, Spokesman for the Democratic Party and Adam Nikas, Spokesman for the Republican Party enlightened the class about the two political parties’ platforms and planks. Some planks discussed with the class were the economy, foreign policy, education, immigration, and taxes. Students were able to pose questions to both presenters. After the lesson, the moderator complimented the students for their participation and asked them to attend another political virtual classroom in March.
