Academic Challenge is a quiz bowl like competition that occurs between approximately twenty local high schools. Meetings are on Mondays after school and students practice with questions from previous seasons. There are three different rounds. The team with the most points after all three rounds wins the match. Students will compete in two matches in the fall and two matches in the winter. These occur after school on Monday and students generally return to Coventry by 7:30 – 8:00PM. Transportation is provided from and back to the High School. In addition, students compete in a day long tournament at the University of Akron in the early Spring. This is an all day trip that requires the student to miss a day of school.
In addition to our normal competition, this year Coventry has been selected to compete on the Academic Challenge game show. Information about that can be found at http://www.newsnet5.com/sponsor/2677409/detail.html
or by watching the show on Saturdays at 7:00PM. Note that the show format is somewhat different that the competition format. If this is something that sounds interesting to you stop in and see Mr. Pascoe in room 306 or Mrs. England in the main office or listen to the announcements on Monday’s for our first practice. The team is a relaxed and low pressure way to enjoy participating in an extra-curricular activity.
