The renovation project is in full swing with the roof project at the middle school underway and a completion date of Friday, August 9th well within our reach. The middle school boilers are being replaced and the first step of asbestos abatement has been completed. The next step involves flushing the entire system before dismantling this gigantic unit. The unit will be cut into smaller portions for removal and then the new heating and air units will be installed. The new heating system is scheduled to be operable by the end of September. The high school roof is also being replaced and work on that building is underway and will be completed by the start of school.
The entire central office staff is being relocated to the Lakeview building which has undergone renovation with the addition of new paint, carpeting and a small portion of the roof being replaced. Lakeview will house all of the central office administrators and directors in the same building for the first time. By utilizing the Lakeview building instead of renting a facility the district will save a tremendous amount of money over the three years the complete project including the new high school will take to build. The move to Lakeview will be permanent instead of just short term so the savings to the district over the long term will be significant. Currently, the superintendent and treasurer’s offices have been relocated to the Lakeview building with other central office administrators to follow over the next two weeks.
Renovation to the former central offices located at the middle school building as well as the curriculum offices located at the current high school will be renovated beginning in the fall. Also a new bus storage facility will be placed in the current lower parking lot of the high school and that project is slated to begin in October. The new bus storage facility will be paid for by Peterman Bus Company as part of our agreement with them to manage our bus fleet.
A new elementary gymnasium will be constructed at the site next to the old outdoor swimming pool at the current high school and that project is scheduled to begin early next spring and take about 3 months to complete.
The entire renovation project is scheduled to be completed by October 2014.
At the same time that the renovation project is going on we are meeting with the Ohio School Facilities Commission planning the new high school. Please be looking for information regarding community meetings to gather input into the new building. These meetings will begin in September. It is our goal that the new high school will be completed no later than the fall of 2016 and hopefully sooner. We will be posting pictures of the renovation project on the website next week.
