We are reading the novel Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary. As we read, the students will meet in Literature Circle groups to discuss the story. In writing we are working on drafting different types of fictional narratives. The spelling words for this week focus on the word roots aqua-, hydr-, flam-, pyr-, and therm-. The spelling test will be on Friday. There is no reading homework this week!
We will continue with our “Step Up to Fifth Grade” math lessons. This week’s lessons focus on using variables and understanding decimal place value. We will also continue working on our Resort Report projects. There will be no homework in math this week.
This week we will begin our final topic in science: Electrical Energy. This week's lessons will focus on static electricity.
We will finish up our discussion of economics. There will be a short quiz on Wednesday. The students will be using the economics booklet we’ve been working on in class during the quiz.
